About Us

Our History

Oyate Kinipi, formerly Open Arms Native Missions, began its journey in 2012 with a heartfelt mission to uplift and empower Native American communities and those in need. Officially becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2018, we’ve grown into a dynamic resource dedicated to cultural revitalization, mentorship, and community support. What started as a program providing essentials like food, clothing, and household items has expanded into a powerful movement of healing and transformation. While our roots are in serving Native American communities, we’re proud to now support individuals and families from all walks of life across Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as Native communities throughout the Midwest.

Guided by the Native worldview of the life cycle, our programs inspire pride, foster resilience, and build stronger, healthier communities. We are 100% donor and grant supported and rely on the passion of our dedicated volunteers who help bring our vision to life. Led by a passionate Board of Directors, primarily Native American professionals with lived experience, Oyate Kinipi—meaning “restored people” or “revitalized nation” in Dakota—is creating a brighter future for all. Join us on this journey of hope and empowerment!

"At Oyate Kinipi, we don’t just provide support—we help people rediscover hope, resilience, and the strength of community."
